Apply to Become a Table Facilitator

Volunteer Opportunity for Graduate Students and Young Leaders

The Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) is looking for a limited number of highly qualified candidates to serve as table facilitators during its third annual meeting, April 16th to 18th, 2010, at the University of Miami in Florida.

On Saturday, April 17th, CGI U will convene two working sessions for the 1,200 students attending the event. Participants will learn about global challenges such as climate change and poverty, and how best to address them. Each session will consist of an expert panel followed by small roundtable discussions. Qualified facilitators with knowledge of one of CGI U’s five global challenge areas (education, environment & climate change, peace & human rights, poverty alleviation, and public health) will lead these ten person discussions. Facilitators should also have experience working with one of the three approaches to solving global challenges listed below.

  • Advocacy & Media — Awareness-building and information sharing through outreach campaigns, events, dialogue and digital communication.
  • Community Development — Implementation of projects and services through local partnerships and community participation.
  • Education & Training — Capacity-building through educational resources and opportunities, mentorship, and skill development.

Table discussions offer a unique opportunity for students to explore global challenges and share the essential strategies and insights necessary to implement their Commitments to Action. In order to better tailor discussions to student projects, most tables in working sessions will be assigned to one of the three approaches, and students will be seated at the tables that most interest them. Led by facilitators, each table will discuss how its specific approach can be used to address the challenges discussed by the panel.

Facilitators are essential to providing our attendees with an engaging and interactive experience. As such, CGI U is looking for only those exemplary candidates who are best suited for the role. The criteria include:

  • Capacity to effectively facilitate group dialogue, elicit discussion within a diverse group, and build consensus as necessary, all within the limited time available.
  • Maturity and composure to conduct a discussion with credibility and presence.
  • Knowledge in one of the following working session topic areas: education, environment & climate change, public health, peace & human rights, or poverty alleviation.
  • Experience with one of the following approaches to solving global challenges: advocacy & media, community development, education & training.
  • Availability to facilitate discussions in both the morning and afternoon working sessions on April 17th, as well as a training session in the afternoon or evening of April 16th (time TBD).
  • Understanding that this is a volunteer role and CGI U will not be able to pay the costs for travel and/or accommodations. CGI cannot guarantee access to any events at the meeting other than the two working sessions, due to space limitations.
  • Flexibility to adapt to any changes that arise. This may include switching global challenges/approaches if necessary.

Please note: Undergraduate students will not be considered unless they are past CGI U commitment makers or have a formal commitment development role.

If you are interested in serving as a table facilitator, please complete the following application and upload a resume or short bio. Due to high demand, CGI cannot accept all applicants. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.
