CGI U Application Checklist
Step 1: Identify the type of CGI U application to submit.
Students interested in attending CGI U 2012 can apply as either an individual or a student group.
- An individual application must include a commitment that is proposed by an individual student who decides to take action on an issue of importance to him or her.
- A student group application must include a commitment that is a collaborative effort by more than one student. A student group may include up to four individuals, including the group leader who fills out the initial student group application.
Step 2: Brainstorm, research and talk to others.
To be considered for admission, all applicants are required to make a Commitment to Action. A Commitment to Action is a concrete step that makes a difference in the areas of Education, Environment & Climate Change, Peace & Human Rights, Poverty Alleviation, or Public Health.
As part of the application, students are asked to provide a detailed plan that outlines the scope of the commitment and how it will be implemented.
To get started, we suggest you:
- Review the CGI U Commitments Guide and other documents in our Commitment Resources section.
- Talk to your CGI U Campus Representative. Not sure if your school has a Campus Rep? Email CGI U (cgiu@clintonglobalinitiative.org) to find out!
We also encourage you to:
- Read more about the CGI U commitments process.
- View previous CGI U Outstanding Commitment Award winners.
- Watch webcasts from previous CGI U Annual Meetings.
Step 3: Prepare your Commitment to Action.
We strongly suggest you write a draft of your Commitment to Action offline. This will help you in case there is a glitch in our application system and will provide you with a record of your Commitment to Action.Ask yourself: is my Commitment to Action new, specific and measurable?

Step 5: Tell your friends!
Post a note to Facebook and Twitter, or email your friends and family telling them that you have just applied to CGI U. This not only helps us spread the word about this amazing opportunity, but also gives you a reason to tell others about your Commitment to Action.
Not sure what to write? How about something like this:
I just applied for CGI U 2012 - ask me about my Commitment to Action and check out more about the conference @ www.cgiu.org!
